PDO Threads
Lift and smooth sagging skin and lower face laxity with PDO threads
Q: What are PDO threads?
A: PDO stands for polydioxanone, which is an absorbable and biocompatible suture material. This kind of suture material has been used in surgery for decades, and more recently for aesthetic procedures for lifting and collagen stimulation.
Q: How do PDO Threads work?
A: Certain types of threads have small filaments that hold onto tissue creating a lifting effect. They create a supportive structure that lifts the skin and they gradually dissolve in about six months. Collagen stimulation will hold the lifted skin in place and improve texture and firmness.
Q: How many treatments will I need and how long do the results last?
A: To get the most out of your threat treatment, we recommend at least three treatments. The results are expected to last about 12-18 months, depending on individual factors, and annual maintenance is highly recommended. Over time, as the threads dissolve, collagen is formed and the quality of skin improves. The best results are usually achieved with a combination of threads and dermal fillers.
Q: What is the recovery time?
A: As with most cosmetic procedures, bruising, swelling, and tenderness are common. When using the lifting threads, which are commonly placed in an upward direction going into the hairline, a headache for the following 2-3 days is common. Most people experience a tightness feeling as well. You can take over the counter pain relievers as needed after the procedure. You will be sent home with small bandaids or steri-strips over the needle holes, and they will stay on for 24 hours. No vigorous exercise, swimming or saunas for 48 hours, and no facials or massages for one week.
Q: Who is a good candidate for a PDO Thread Lift?
A: A good candidate is someone with moderate skin laxity who would be happy with a subtle lift without surgery. All patients need a consultation prior to scheduling a thread lift appointment. Our provider will evaluate your skin to be sure that the treatment is appropriate for you and that we can achieve your desired outcome. Your custom treatment plan may include dermal fillers or Botox.
